A general medical examination is not something exclusive to football. Any athlete must undergo medical tests that rule out risks to their health. It is advisable to perform an annual medical examination, for the simple fact of keeping track of our state of health. Likewise, it is useful to have a medical check-up every time a new sport activity is undertaken, to know whether you are physically prepared for it or not.
The medical examination is the set of tests focused on the investigation of possible injuries, alterations or organic anomalies. Depending on the purpose of the consultation, be it professional, sports or merely informative, the tests must be oriented in one direction or another. Normally, a cardiorespiratory medical examination, muscle mass, body mass, etc. are done first. Once the general examinations have been completed, more specific tests are carried out for organs and also hearing, sight, balance, and the locomotor. It is a general examination.
At this time of year, the players are beginning their trainings and incorporating into their teams. And at this same time, the pertinent medical examination must be carried out. For this, the best and closest center must be located.
Clínica la Siesta is already performing football medical examinations, for players, coaches and referees of the Valencian Community. So far, the Vega Baja and more specifically Torrevieja, lacked this service and those who needed it had to travel many kilometres to find a medical center where they could go. Luckily, the agreement with the Football Federation of the Valencian Community and the Social Security Mutuality of Spanish football players was signed, and hundreds of footballers are now able to benefit from it and visit us in the La Siesta urbanisation in Torrevieja.
Soon the kids of the lower categories of CB Torrevieja will pass their awards at the facilities of Clínica la Siesta.
For this examination you only have to present a valid identity documentation and indicate the club in which you are playing. It is important that minors come accompanied by their guardian or a club representative.
There are different protocols for football medical examinations according to the objectives. It will depend on many factors and the corresponding requirements of the Federation and Mutuality. In general, a complete medical examination for athletes consists of:

Anamnesis

An interview in which personal data of the player is collected, as well as their clinical history (possible ailments, diseases, previous operations).

Anthropometric measures

Weight, height, BMI (Body Mass Index), etc.

Exploration

– Measuring blood pressure and the heart rate.
– Spirometry.
– Locomotor system.
– Electrocardiogram.
– General strength and flexibility tests.
– Stress test: the most used are the treadmill and the stationary bike, in which progressive increases in workload are carried out, with a maximum duration of between ten and fifteen minutes. It is essential to perform an electrocardiogram before the test, and continuously monitor the entire test, and at least for three-five minutes more in recovery. This way, an analysis of oxygen consumed and carbon dioxide eliminated is carried out, allowing an accurate determination of the maximum oxygen consumption, and the precise detection of the aerobic and anaerobic thresholds.
