SCLEROTERAPHY OR MICROFOAM TREATMENT

Is the direct injection of a sclerosing agent into the diseased vein to eliminate the use of anesthesia is not necessary, since infiltrations are made with a very fine needle and does not require disrupt the lifestyle of the patient.

TYPES OF PATHOLOGY VEINS

Reticular veins and telangiectasias (spider veins)

These are thin veins, blue or green colored. They tend to have only an aesthetic component, but many people also have discomfort symptoms such as: “heavy-legs” at the end of the day, cramping or swelling.

Troncular veins

The troncular veins, also known as truncal veins, are born from the principal superficial venous axes of the leg. They usually rise from internal or external saphenous vein. The treatment of this type of veins is individualized on each patient and can be: sclerosis with foam, CHIVA technique or radiofrequency. If left untreated they often give long-term problems.

With edema

In this stage of the venous disease we observe permanent oedema of the leg and the lower limb. It is indicated the use of compression stockings and the treatment of the varicose veins with either technique.

With complications

In the stage 4 of the disease the specific complications are present. Can appear: phlebitis, thrombosis, bleeding (varicorrhage), skin pigmentation and eczema. To prevent the progress of the complications the treatment must have no delay.

SYMPTONMS OF VENOUS INSUFFICIENCY

The varicose veins may be asymptomatic or cause symptoms such as: “heavy-legs”, edema, swelling, cramps, itching or skin pigmentations.

The discomfort will increase as passing time and you have to remember that it’s a banal, but chronic disease, influenced by gravitation, with a progressive course.

CAN WE PREVENT THIS DISEASE?

The varicose veins have in important genetic component thus we can prevent but not avoid the disease. For achieving this goal we have to take appropriate preventive measures and try not to do the actions that can favor their appearance, like:

    • Standing for very long period
    • Expose the legs to important heat (sun or the sources of heat)
    • Avoid overweight
    • Avoid oral contraceptives

Also is advisable to use compressive stockings. These are the best measures to avoid this disease.
